AI voice cloning: clone your own voice safely, in Arabic too

Two minutes of your voice is enough for a copy that reads any script. First decide whose voice, with whose permission, and where it will be used.

Cloning a voice is now easier than recording one. One or two minutes of your voice is enough for a tool like ElevenLabs to build a copy that reads anything you type.

The question worth your time is no longer how. It is whose voice, with whose permission, and where it will be used.

This guide is for business owners, trainers and creators who want to clone their own voice. The aim: short ads, lessons or voice replies without a studio booking every week. It also covers what to do to protect your voice and your family from fakes.

The common mistake

Many videos on this topic promise you can copy anyone’s voice. That road leads to trouble with platforms and with people, and it does nothing for your business. The major tools forbid it in their own policies.

The quieter mistake: you test a free open-source model and like the result. Then you use it in a paid ad, and the model’s licence does not allow commercial use at all.

The big picture: four steps

  1. The sample: a clean recording of your voice.
  2. The model: the tool learns your tone and rhythm from the sample.
  3. The script: you type, and it is read in your voice.
  4. The review: you listen before publishing, fix pronunciation and decide whether to disclose.

Output quality comes from step one. Legal trouble comes from skipping step four.

A kitchen comparison

The sample works like a sourdough starter. A clean starter from your own kitchen gives the same taste in every loaf, and a contaminated one ruins the dough.

A starter taken from someone else’s bakery without asking gets you into trouble. No setting in the tool fixes a bad sample.

A worked example: weekly ads in the owner’s voice

This example is made up.

An online abaya store in Riyadh: each week the owner records three short ads for Snapchat and TikTok, about 15 seconds each. Retakes take her two hours. She wants to type the scripts, generate them in her voice and review them in fifteen minutes.

The week’s scripts, as she writes them (Saudi Arabic in the real ads; translated here):

Ad Script What it tests
1 The winter collection is in. A loose-cut crepe abaya for SAR 349, delivered within Riyadh in two days. Numbers and currency
2 Order from the link or message us on WhatsApp. We reply within an hour during working hours. Feminine address and local words
3 Your size is not there? We tailor it in 5 working days. Saudi dialect in a short line

For a store in Alexandria, run the same test in Egyptian Arabic with your own prices and product names. Test lines must come from how you actually speak.

Step by step

1. Decide whose voice

Your own, or an employee’s or voice actor’s with your written agreement stating the use and the period. No celebrities, no former partners, no client’s voice “just to try”.

2. Record a clean sample

  • A quiet room with no echo: curtains and carpet beat a kitchen or bathroom.
  • One speaker, a steady distance from the mic, and the tone you use in your ads.
  • For ElevenLabs Instant Voice Cloning: one to two minutes of good audio. Its guide says going past two or three minutes adds little.
  • For Professional Voice Cloning: roughly 30 minutes to 3 hours, and training takes hours.
  • MP3 at 192kbps or higher is enough. Uncompressed WAV usually does not improve the result.

3. Match the tool to the use

Option Sample Commercial use Fits when
ElevenLabs Instant Voice Cloning 1 to 2 minutes Yes, from the paid Starter plan Short ads and quick tests
ElevenLabs Professional Voice Cloning 30 minutes or more, plus a step that verifies the voice is yours Yes, from the Creator plan Long lessons and a steady brand voice
XTTS-v2 open-source model About 6 seconds; Arabic is one of 17 languages No. Its licence is non-commercial only Learning and testing on your computer

The ElevenLabs free plan does not include cloning. Prices change, so check the pricing page on the day you subscribe. On 2 November 2026, Starter was USD 6 a month and Creator USD 22, both with a first-month discount.

4. Test your dialect before paying for a year

ElevenLabs lists Arabic as Saudi Arabia and UAE for its Multilingual v2 model and does not name Egyptian Arabic. That does not mean it fails. It means you test it yourself with the lines above before any commitment.

5. Write for the ear

  • Spell the brand name the way it is pronounced if the voice gets it wrong.
  • Add vowel marks only to the word it mispronounces, not to the whole script.
  • One idea per sentence, and a comma where you want a pause.
  • Try a price in digits once and in words once, and keep the clearer one.

6. Disclose when you must

YouTube treats cloning your own voice for voice-overs or dubbing as a minor edit that needs no disclosure. Making a real person appear to say something they did not say does need clear disclosure. The working rule for a business: your voice in your own ad needs no label; anyone else’s voice needs their permission and a disclosure.

In Saudi Arabia, Arab News reported in May 2026 on SDAIA’s deepfakes guidelines. They ask for explicit, recorded consent before using a person’s voice or likeness, and a clear mark on generated content. Keep written consent for every voice that is not yours.

The rule: your own voice, or one you have written permission to use.

Protect your voice and your family

The same technology powers scam calls: a voice like your son’s or brother’s asking for an urgent transfer. Three simple habits help:

  • A family code word nobody else knows, asked on any call that requests money.
  • Hang up and call back on the number you already know.
  • Do not post long recordings of your voice or your children’s on public accounts unless you need to.

Worth knowing

On 3 December 2024 the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center warned about AI-generated audio. Criminals use it to pose as a victim’s relatives and ask for money. Its first tip: agree on a secret word or phrase within the family to check who is calling.

Checklist before your first ad in a cloned voice

  • The voice is mine, or I hold written consent stating the use and period.
  • The tool and my plan allow commercial use.
  • I listened to the whole ad before publishing, and numbers and names are right.
  • I tested my dialect with my own lines, not the tool’s samples.
  • I know the disclosure rules of the platform I will post on.
  • My family knows the code word.

Your task

Record two minutes of your voice today under the conditions above. Write the three test lines with your own prices and products and generate them in one tool. Listen on your phone with earphones and mark every word the voice got wrong.

Questions people ask

Can I clone my voice with AI for free?

For testing, yes, with open-source models such as XTTS-v2 on your own computer. Its licence is non-commercial, so do not use it in an ad or a product you sell. The ElevenLabs free plan did not include cloning when this was written.

Does cloning work in Egyptian Arabic?

The tools support Arabic, and some name Gulf dialects but not Egyptian. The only way to know is to test with your everyday lines before a long subscription.

Can I clone someone else’s voice with their consent?

Some tools allow it with explicit consent and some do not. ElevenLabs Professional Voice Cloning, for example, is for your own voice only: the owner clones it in their account and shares it. Either way, keep written consent.

How many minutes of audio do I need?

One to two minutes is enough for ElevenLabs Instant Voice Cloning, and 30 minutes or more for Professional Voice Cloning. Quality matters more than length.

How can I tell a cloned voice on a call?

Do not rely on your ear. Ask for the family code word, or hang up and call the number you know, and never transfer money under pressure.

Free kit

The safe cloning kit: a voice consent form in Arabic and English and a recording checklist. It also has test lines in Egyptian and Saudi Arabic and a family code word card.

Next step

For businesses that publish ads every week, I build a system that drafts the script, generates the voice and checks it before publishing. Read about the AI automation service, or join the Evollo community to compare notes with others.
